Kristian E. Vasquez (he/him) is a scholar, creative writer, and political educator based in Los Angeles, California. He is a doctoral candidate in the Department of Chicana and Chicano Studies at UC Santa Barbara. His doctoral work is at the intersection of race/indigeneity, affect, performance, culture, and decolonial theory, theorizing the expressive culture of La Xicanada in California. He earned his B.A. in Chicana and Chicano studies and American Indian studies at UC Los Angeles, graduating magna cum laude in 2019. He is a part-time lecturer in the Ethnic Studies Department at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo.
He has been published in Grietas: A Journal of Zapatista Thought and Horizons, Regeneración: A Xicanacimiento Studies Journal, Ethnic Studies Review, S/O: Sounding Out!, and La Raíz Magazine.
His research has been supported by the Crossing Latinidades Mellon Foundation Fellowship and the Louis H. Towbes Fellowship.
